CROSS STITCH by SpideRaY is a free decorative display font modeled on counted-thread embroidery for playful craft-themed lettering. Each letter is assembled from separate X-shaped marks rather than continuous strokes, giving the broad, open forms the uneven edges and airy texture of a stitched sampler.
Craft-fair posters are its clearest setting, with the needlework motif also fitting sewing-kit packaging, handmade product labels, and seasonal greeting cards. It belongs with textile, needlecraft, and folk-art themes.

This typeface, created in 2011, was one of my first. I began using a grid divided into sections containing similarly shaped images, turning stem and crossbar positions on or off during the design process. This may have been a precursor to my ALPHABRIX typeface, in which BRIX was used instead of STITCHES to achieve the same effect.
