APHont by American Printing House for the Blind is a free low-contrast sans serif with plain strokes, broad rounded curves, and generous proportions that make the lettering look calm and purposeful. The letter shapes are direct, smooth, and quietly neutral.

As a calm informational voice, it suits public signage and educational publishing, where the unfussy construction supports a serious but approachable message across a related set of materials. Forms and digital interfaces can use the same restrained lettering for labels, prompts, and instructions. In these settings, the letters can become part of the navigation system rather than acting as decorative display type.
